Water play activities for children to try out
- Water Balloon Toss
The water balloon toss is a classic game that’s also easy to make. Fill balloons with water and start tossing out the water balloons to each other. Everyone should try to catch as many water balloons as they can within a minute before they burst! Whoever catches the most water balloons is the winner.
- Sponge Dodgeball
For this game, get a couple of sponges, soak them with water, and have the teams throw them at buckets on the opposite side. The team that gets the most sponges or balls into the bucket wins the game.
- Human Car Wash
Everyone loves water play activities for children. Hoses attached to fixtures are great for playing “the human car wash” game. You can also get some smaller spray bottles at drugstores or dollar stores and use them to play “spray tag.”
- Tossing Beach Balls
Tossing or kicking a beach ball back and forth is another water play activity for children and a lot of fun. You can make up your own rules for this game. The most obvious is that if the ball lands in the water, you have to get it and throw it back on dry land before you can resume play.
- Tippy-Tippy Toes
For these water activities for kids, divide into two teams and line up on either side of the pool. When all the players are in place, one team starts running toward the other team. The goal is to knock over as many people on the opposing team as possible. The first team to reach that point wins that round!
- Water Relay Race
Divide your family into teams and line them up at one end of the pool. At the other end, place a bucket with a colorful beach ball in it. Each team member must run to the bucket, fill up their bucket with water and race back to their team. The first team to get all of their water in their bin wins!
- Team Water Fight
Two to four people per team are divided into two lines facing each other. The first person in line 1 starts the game by spraying their opponent on the other team. If hit, the player goes to the end of their line and is replaced by the next person in line. It continues back and forth until one team has won all their opponents.
